North Shore-LIJ to Bring Mobile Health Van, Free Medical Care to Sandy Victims in Staten Island, Lindenhurst

The North Shore-LIJ Health System will be providing free medical care to Hurricane Sandy victims through its “Project Coastal Care” mobile health van in Staten Island and Lindenhurst.

Project Coastal Care” will be in Staten Island at the Staten Island Relief Center at 2271 Hylan Boulevard, near the Tunnel to Towers headquarters, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 26. The mobile medical van will be in Lindenhurst at the Disaster Recovery Center at Shore Road Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, January 28.

The mobile medical van is staffed with at least one doctor, other healthcare professionals and a driver. People can seek treatment for a variety of ailments, including maintenance of chronic and acute illnesses; upper respiratory infections and wound abrasions. Flu and tetanus vaccines are also available from the mobile van’s medical team. Patients are treated free of charge and are not asked for proof of insurance.

 To date, “Project Coastal Care” has treated almost 900 people in Long Beach, Broad Channel and other locations since it began providing medical assistance in mid-November.
