North Shore-LIJ $130M Children’s Hospital Expansion to Open
The North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System will begin treating and admitting patients at its new $130 million pavilion at Cohen Children’s Medical Center on April 22.
The expansion includes a separate pediatric emergency room, new technology such as a low-radiation-dose computed tomography scanner and pediatric pharmacy.
Cohen Children’s Medical Center emergency care physicians currently work and admit children through the Long Island Jewish Medical Center emergency department.
The pavilion also doubles the number of emergency department pediatric beds to 30 and expands the number of pediatric intensive care beds to 37. It also adds adds 25 medical-surgical beds.
Steven and Alexandra Cohen donated $50 million that led to the renaming of the children’s hospital in March 2010.
The Cohen Foundation previously donated $7 million to North Shore-LIJ to build a new ambulatory pediatric chemotherapy unit and to establish an endowment for the Dr. Philip Lanzkowsky Professorship in Pediatrics.
