A New Helipad for Southside Hospital

Bay Shore-based Southside Hospital has installed a new helipad in a parking lot right next to its emergency room.
The helipad enables emergency crews to treat patients needing urgent medical care more efficiently.
“Having this helipad at Southside Hospital allows the Northwell Health helicopter and others to safely land and quickly get patients to the medical care they urgently need,” said Anthony Pellicone, associate executive director of operations at Southside, in a written statement.
The helicopter transfers patients from hospital to hospital through a partnership with Northwell Health and Yale New Haven Health System. The helipad meets FAA EC150 circular standards and received approval of the New York State Department of Health.
Southside Hospital is an American College of Surgeons’ Level II verified trauma center. Its emergency department is undergoing construction, and will begin accepting patients in September, with plans to triple in size in 2017.
