LIJMC to Absorb Forest Hills and Franklin

Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, L.I., filed a certificate-of-need application to combine Forest Hills Hospital and Franklin Hospital in Valley Stream, L.I., under LIJMC’s operating license. The move is part of a strategy to bring together hospitals in the North Shore-LIJ Health System’s central region, which includes most Nassau County hospitals, said a spokesman. According to the application, “hospital closures in Queens have resulted in a significant increase in visits to the emergency departments and inpatient units at LIJMC and Forest Hills specifically.” Making Forest Hills and Franklin hospitals units of LIJMC will help with care coordination and “streamline administrative oversight within a more financially stable framework.” Eventually the three hospitals will share a single electronic medical record and scheduling system, according to the application. “Forest Hills and Franklin will continue to have individual hospital credentialing committees and their own leadership boards,” said the spokesman. “But the committees and leadership boards will report to LIJ’s clinical board, which will be reconfigured so that Franklin and Forest Hills have representation on the board.”
