NEW YORK, NY – A Lenox Hill Hospital security officer has been named “Security Officer of the Year” for 2014 by the New York chapter of ASIS International, the leading global organization for security professionals.
Jason Brown was honored for his actions in subduing a violent patient who assaulted a staff member during an altercation last August, nearly taking his life. He was presented with the award at the organization’s annual holiday luncheon on December 19th.
The ASIS Award is presented annually to one NYC-area security officer who went beyond the call of duty with an act of bravery, courage and selflessness to protect human life or property. There is significant competition for the award with about 300 nominations each year.
Mr. Brown stepped in to save a co-worker who was caught in a physical altercation with a disturbed patient, just as the patient knocked the staff member to the floor. He subdued and restrained the patient, escorting him to an isolated room. The employee is still recovering from the assault in which he sustained serious injuries to the face and neck.
“Jason Brown exemplifies the security office here at Lenox Hill Hospital: he’s professional, loyal and dedicated to the job,” said Kenneth Solosky, director of security at Lenox Hill Hospital. “His actions in August demonstrated exactly what the security field is meant to do.”
