Huntington, South Oaks Hospitals Participate in Silas Wood’s Hospital for a Day Program

Thomas Knichel, LRT, administrative director of radiology at Huntington Hospital, shows students how to best look at radiology scans.

HUNTINGTON, NY – Staff members from Huntington Hospital, South Oaks Hospital, Northwell Health, Stern Family Center for Rehabilitation and Cohen Children’s Medical Center offered South Huntington School District students a firsthand look at various healthcare careers from the comfort of their own school building in the second Hospital for a Day program on March 18.

Approximately 500 sixth grade Silas Wood Career Academy students got to study radiological scans, learn about orthopedic procedures and see some forms of occupational therapy, among other things, at Silas Wood Middle School. Twenty-five Walt Whitman High School students also participated in the day’s events.

“This is my second year working with the students in the Hospital for a Day program and I’m happy to be part of this great opportunity for them to start deciding what kind of career path they want to follow,” said Thomas Knichel, LRT, administrative director of radiology at Huntington Hospital.
