HUNTINGTON, NY – Millions of people each year experience fractures from a fall and by becoming an Own the Bone facility, Huntington Hospital is helping to ensure they get the proper care and help in preventing future injuries.
Own the Bone, which is part of the American Orthopaedic Association, supports physicians and hospitals in utilizing the best care for these fragility fractures and how to best prevent them from happening again. There are more than two million fragility fractures due to osteoporosis each year, according to Own the Bone.
These fractures can lead to people missing out on time and activities with their families, their job and other things, so preventing these fragility fractures is crucial.
“Becoming an Own the Bone site shows Huntington Hospital’s commitment to helping the community prevent these fractures,” said Gerard Brogan, Jr., MD, executive director of Huntington Hospital. “We want to keep our community healthy and engaged in an active lifestyle, doing what they love to do.”
Huntington Hospital was also recently recognized by the Joint Commission, a not-for-profit group involved in certifying medical programs, for its high-quality knee and hip replacement programs, winning the highest award – the gold seal of quality.
