HUNTINGTON, NY – The Joanne Marzano Center for Gynecologic Surgery at Huntington Hospital was recently recognized as a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology (COEMIG).
COEMIG is a designation from the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists and the Surgical Review Corporation. To achieve this distinction, Huntington Hospital’s gynecology department had to meet stringent guidelines, including the medical staff and hospital’s administration supporting and endorsing the benefits of minimally-invasive gynecologic surgery compared to traditional methods.
More than 90 percent of Huntington Hospital’s gynecologic procedures are minimally-invasive. Some of the benefits of having a minimally invasive procedure include less pain, quicker recovery and less blood loss. Ted Goldman, MD, co-director of this center, noted that these procedures also usually have more cosmetically appealing results than other gynecologic procedures.
Some of the minimally-invasive gynecologic procedures available at Huntington Hospital include:
- Gynecologic cancers treatment
- Surgical treatment of endometriosis
- Treatment of pelvic organ prolapse
