HUNTINGTON, NY – Gerard X. Brogan, Jr., MD, FACEP, of Huntington, has been appointed executive director of Huntington Hospital, effective Jan. 20, the North Shore LIJ-Health System announced today.
“While several talented candidates from both inside and outside the organization were interviewed for the position over the past several months, Dr. Brogan distinguished himself as a professional with a thorough understanding of Huntington Hospital, the successes it enjoys and the challenges it faces in today’s complex healthcare environment,” said Michael Dowling, president and chief executive officer. “As a physician leader, he is focused on delivering the highest quality, patient-centered care to the community and brings a unique set of skills to the business of medicine.”
In his new role, Dr. Brogan will be reporting to Mark Solazzo, executive vice president and chief operating officer of the health system, and the Huntington Hospital Board of Trustees.
Dr. Brogan’s commitment and capabilities have led to an exceptionally successful professional career both inside and outside of the North Shore-LIJ Health System. He previously served as medical director of Forest Hills Hospital, where he focused on improving clinical quality, hospital operational efficiency and financial performance, and worked with hospital staff and more than 500 full-time and community-based physicians.
Dr. Brogan joined the North Shore-LIJ Health System in 1998 as director of emergency services at Plainview Hospital and subsequently served as vice president of emergency services for Forest Hills, Franklin, Plainview, Syosset and Southside hospitals.

He is also professor of Emergency Medicine at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine, has published extensively in the area of Acute Cardiac Emergencies and serves as the medical director of Revenue Operations for the health system.
Dr. Brogan received his medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and completed his residency, serving as chief resident, in emergency medicine at LIJ Medical Center.
