Healthy Conversations at Locust Valley High School

LOCUST VALLEY, NY – Representatives from Glen Cove Hospital and the North Shore-LIJ Health System were among the more than 50 students, parents, teachers, school administrators and community experts that  participated in a recent forum about issues facing teenagers at the Locust Valley High School.

There was an open discussion between a panel of professionals and the audience about such topics as bullying, drugs and alcohol, peer pressure, social media, anxiety and depression and coping skills.

The event, sponsored by the Health and Wellness Council of the Locust Valley Central School District, gave students and parents an opportunity to talk about the social and legal ramifications of teen drinking as well as addiction, for example, and emphasized coping skills, solutions and open dialogue between parents and their children.

Taking part in the expert panel were Sally Ann Riccardi, psychotherapist; Leonardo Huertas, MD, chairman of the emergency department at Glen Cove Hospital; Michael Delman, MD, addictions specialist at North Shore-LIJ Health System; Hon. Richard McCord, City Court Judge of Glen Cove; detective Pamela Stark, Nassau County Police Department; and detective Brian Simmons, Glen Cove Police Department.
