BAY SHORE, NY – The North Shore-LIJ Health System and GoHealth Urgent Care recently cut the ribbon on their urgent care center in Bay Shore, the first such center in Suffolk County.
A similar center was opened at 377 S. Oyster Bay Road in Plainview.
The Bay Shore GoHealth facility, located at 603B East Main St., is one of 50 sites slated to open over the next three years in the New York metropolitan area. A GoHealth urgent care center in East Northport is expected to be the next one in Suffolk.
The GoHealth facilities provide care for non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries including falls, sports injuries, viral infections, colds and the flu and is a convenient option to NSLIJ’s Southside ER department. Patients can also receive laboratory tests and X-rays at the center. GoHealth Urgent Care is fully integrated with the North Shore-LIJ Health System’s electronic medical records, so a North Shore-LIJ physician’s patient can see a GoHealth medical practitioner who has access to their medical history and can obtain referrals for additional care.
“If you receive an X-ray at GoHealth and then seek medical attention from a North Shore-LIJ physician for a sports injury or fall, in many cases that person will not need to perform and charge for an additional X-ray because it is already incorporated into your medical record,” said Robert Korn, MD, medical director of North Shore-LIJ GoHealth.
GoHealth is staffed by doctors, physician assistants and radiology technicians able to care for both children and adults. The facility features four private exam rooms, a triage room and overall an open-air feel.
“We are offering people the healthcare they need within their communities and in the way that people would like to receive it,” said Gary Weatherford, chief executive officer of the North Shore-LIJ GoHealth joint venture. “People prefer environments that are open, treatment rooms that are larger to accommodate friends and family members, and and forming a more complete and quicker relationship with their provider.”
