GLEN COVE, NY –March is National Brain Injury Awareness Month and clinicians at Glen Cove Hospital are encouraging brain injury survivors and caregivers to learn more about brain injury recovery and how to maintain good health. The hospital will hold a free community brain injury awareness education program on Wednesday, March 30 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the hospital’s Pratt Auditorium, 101 St. Andrews Lane, Glen Cove, 11542.
The program will include a presentation about the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program at Glen Cove, a question and answer period with the unit’s multidisciplinary clinical team, including doctors, nurses, rehabilitation therapists and a neuropsychologist. Brain injury survivors will discuss coping strategies and how they are using smart phones to aid in their recovery. Representatives from the New York Brain Injury Association also will participate. Light refreshments will be served.
The hospital’s Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program treats patients with traumatic and non-traumatic brain injury, stroke, brain tumors, brain hemorrhage and other conditions. It is the only New York State-designated, hospital-based, adult brain injury rehabilitation center in Nassau County.
