GLEN COVE, NY – The North Shore-LIJ Health System today announced the appointment of Susan Kwiatek, RN, as executive director of the 265-bed Glen Cove Hospital. Ms. Kwiatek has worked at Glen Cove Hospital for 30 years, most recently as the hospital’s associate executive director of patient care services and chief nursing officer.
In her role as executive director, Ms. Kwiatek is responsible for the overall quality of patient care at the hospital, as well as performance improvement, service excellence, hospital policies and standards, regulatory compliance, staff recruitment and retention, and budgets.
Ms. Kwiatek started her career at Glen Cove as a nursing assistant in 1980. Over the past three decades she has held a variety of staff nursing positions and management roles including head nurse of the Medical Unit, head nurse of Rehabilitation and director of inpatient medical services. She was promoted to chief nursing officer and associate executive director in 2001.
Ms. Kwiatek succeeds Dennis Connors, who was executive director at Glen Cove Hospital for the past eight years and also served as the hospital’s assistant administrator from 1985 to 1990. Mr. Connors was recently named deputy executive director at Lenox Hill Hospital, North Shore-LIJ’s Manhattan flagship facility. Mr. Connors also serves as the health system’s chief service excellence officer, sharing best practices throughout the North Shore-LIJ Health System.
Currently, Ms. Kwiatek is pursuing a doctorate in nursing practice (DNP) degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Long Island University (LIU) CW Post in 1989 and a master’s of business administration from LIU in 2004.
She is a member of the American Nurses Association, the American Organization of Nurse Executives and is an active member in North Shore-LIJ’s Nurse Executive Council. In addition, Ms. Kwiatek received North Shore-LIJ’s Excellence in Achievement Commendation in 2003 for excellence, caring, customer focus, teamwork, integrity and innovation.
