GLEN COVE, NY -- The North Shore-LIJ Health System recently appointed Cathy Sheerin, RN, as chief nursing officer and associate executive director at Glen Cove Hospital. Ms. Sheerin previously served as the hospital’s director of patient care services, joining Glen Cove in 2006 as nurse manager for psychiatry.
In her new role as chief nursing officer, Ms. Sheerin oversees a staff of 679 employees, including 375 registered nurses. She is responsible for the operations in the nursing department as well as other clinical departments including pharmacy, laboratory and respiratory; and physical, occupational, recreational and speech therapies.
With more than 30 years of nursing experience, Ms Sheerin has held management roles in urgent care, substance abuse services and medical management services.
Ms. Sheerin earned her MS in nursing at Adelphi University Graduate School of Nursing and her BS in nursing from Molloy College. In 2008, she received board-certification as a nurse executive by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Ms. Sheerin is a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives, the New York State Nurses’ Association, the American Nurses’ Association, the American Psychiatric Nurses’ Association and Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Association.
