VALLEY STREAM, NY – Approximately 100 people attended Franklin Hospital’s 16th annual health fair on Saturday where they learned about various ways to stay healthy and received medical screenings, the North Shore-LIJ Health System announced today.
Many of the hospital’s departments, including orthopedics, emergency services, radiology and the Lions Eye Bank for Long Island, provided health information and demonstrations under a tent on the campus of Franklin Hospital. There were also blood pressure, cholesterol and other health screenings available, as well as a tour of Franklin Hospital from the hospital’s administration. In addition, Franklin’s nutrition department provided people with healthy recipes and nutritional education. Health fair patrons were also treated to food samples and a cooking demonstration by Franklin Hospital Chef Domingo Martinez.
The health fair, dubbed “Family Wellness at Franklin,” also featured family activities such as face painting and a bouncy play area.
“Seeing all of the families and people learning about their health and enjoying the festivities on a beautiful day was wonderful,” said Catherine Hottendorf, RN, executive director of Franklin Hospital. “Thank you to the staff who made this day possible. We look forward to creating more family events at our hospital and participating in upcoming community events.”
The health fair was organized by Helen White, Franklin Hospital’s community relations manager.
