The position of medical director at Forest Hills Hospital is now divided among three physicians who each assume interim roles for leadership at the hospital.
Mitchel C. Jacobs, MD, serves as interim medical director, and Michael DellaCorte, DPM, and Rohit Reejsinghani, DO, are interim associate medical directors. Combined, they fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the position formerly held by Gerard X. Brogan, Jr., MD, now the executive director at Huntington Hospital.
“Given the growing complexity and demands of the health care industry overall, we have restructured our hospital’s medical director position in a manner that will enable us to improve focus on all aspects of patient care, service and collaboration while allowing for continuous innovation and enhancement,” said Rita Mercieca, RN, executive director of Forest Hills Hospital. “This model of coverage allows us to leverage the leadership and clinical service knowledge of Drs. Jacobs, DellaCorte and Reejsinghani to best serve the needs of our hospital and the community we serve.”
Dr. Jacobs has 26 years of patient care experience in the fields of critical care, pulmonary medicine and internal medicine, in which he is board-certified. He manages a private practice in pulmonary and critical care medicine in Great Neck and oversees the intensive care units at Forest Hills and Glen Cove hospitals.
Dr. Jacobs has served as chief of surgical care and cardiothoracic intensive care at North Shore University Hospital. He is dedicated to delivering high quality, compassionate medical care and improving the patient experience.
Director of the podiatry residency program at Forest Hills, Dr. DellaCorte has grown the program from three to nine residents with plans of adding three more slots. Currently president of the American Board of Podiatric Medicine, he is board-certified in podiatric medicine and foot and ankle surgery. In practice for more than 30 years, he maintains a private practice in Maspeth and has served as president of the medical board of St. John’s and Mary Immaculate hospitals and as medical director of the Hyperbaric and Wound
Care Centers of Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Care Center, Brooklyn and Queens region. In his new role, Dr. DellaCorte helps coordinate independent physicians’ patient concerns with those of hospital administration.
Dr. Reejsinghani is board-certified in internal medicine and a hospitalist at Forest Hills. His position now includes conducting quality reviews, determining corrective measures to improve patient care and patient experience, and aiding in the management of length of hospitalizations. Previously, Dr. Reejsinghani served as an attending physician at North Shore University Hospital, Mt. Sinai Hospital and Mt. Sinai-Roosevelt Hospital, where he managed resident care teams in the delivery of bedside care, coordinated teaching rounds and reviewed medical research used to improve patient care.
