The Louis Feil Charitable Lead Annuity Trust is endowing a $10 million scholarship fund for students at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine.

The Gertrude and Louis Feil Endowed Scholarship Fund for Medical Students is named honor of the parents of Jeffrey J. Feil, president and CEO of the Feil Organization and a trustee of the charitable trust.

Hofstra President Stuart Rabinowitz said he was grateful for this “extraordinary support for the students of the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine.”

The 180-student school is the first new allopathic medical school – an institution that issues MD degrees – in New York State since 1963.

It will graduate its charter class in May 2015.

The school last summer broke ground on a $35.9 million, 65,000-square-foot addition that will more than double its size.

The trust already has helped numerous hospitals and health-related causes in the region, including Peconic Bay Medical Center in Manorville, South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside and Weill Cornell Medical College in Manhattan.
