NEW HYDE PARK, NY — The North Shore-LIJ Health System announced today that it has signed an agreement to form a ‘first on Long Island’ clinical affiliation with ENT and Allergy Associates (ENTA). The teaming of the two organizations provides a bridge between community- based and academically-based medical care, ensuring a continuum of services from primary to tertiary pediatric ENT treatment. The agreement also includes plans to jointly pursue clinical research initiatives centered within a wide range of relevant areas of expertise.
“The affiliation means that pediatric patients can be transferred from their doctor’s office to North Shore-LIJ facilities –especially Cohen Children’s Medical Center in New Hyde Park - for complex issues, and return for follow-up-care back in their own communities,” said Andrea Vambutas, MD, chair of otolaryngology at North Shore University Hospital and LIJ Medical Center.“We have long been aware of ENT and Allergy Associates’ growing presence in so many of the Long Island communities we serve and are extremely gratified that we have been able to form an alliance with them that holds such promise.”
ENTA’s CEO Robert Glazer said that the organizations had been discussing an affiliation for some time and that patients are the ones who will benefit the most. “We have long recognized the benefits to our patients that an affiliation like this will yield. I am thrilled to now be able to announce its completion.”
Charles Schleien, MD, chair of pediatrics at Cohen Children’s Medical Center, said the clinical affiliation further promotes ease of access for ENTA patients and their families. “This partnership ensures that children can begin their care in an ENT and Allergy Associates’ office, and be easily transferred, if necessary, to Cohen Children’s Medical Center or other North Shore-LIJ facilities for more-complex treatment before returning to their local ENTA office for follow-up care,” said Dr. Schleien.
ENTA currently has clinical sites located in Garden City, Lake Success, Riverhead, Southampton, Port Jefferson, Patchogue, Bay Shore, Smithtown and will soon be adding Hauppauge. In addition to Cohen Children’s Medical Center, North Shore-LIJ has hospitals located in Valley Stream, Glen Cove, Huntington, Manhasset, New Hyde Park, Plainview, Syosset, Bay Shore and Riverhead.
Michael Mendelsohn, MD, fellowship-trained pediatric otolaryngologist partner at ENTA’s Garden City office, said, “Our ability to pick up the phone or click a button on our Electronic Health Records system and instantly transfer a pediatric patient in need from our office to North Shore- LIJ will be an invaluable resource to our patients.”
