Innovation in medicine forges new paths toward a cure, and the North Shore-LIJ Cancer Institute is doing just that to improve our patients’ lives.
The Cancer Institute’s subspecialty clinicians work collaboratively across disciplines to provide expert coordinated care. And, as part of an integrated health system, they provide total care for the whole patient and not just cancer care.
Our approach means patients – and their loved ones – experience improved results thanks to expert, interdisciplinary diagnosis and coordinated treatment and aftercare delivered within an integrated health system.
The following pages highlight just a few Cancer Institute innovations and the people behind them, including:
- minimally invasive, fertility-sparing solutions to gynecologic cancer;
- interdisciplinary prostate cancer treatments;
- personalized services for cancers of the digestive system;
- tailoring care for aging cancer patients;
- growing clinical nutrition trials.
Additionally, we’re very excited about the new partnership with the scientists of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and the Cancer Institute’s 200-plus academic oncologists and clinicians. The alliance promises not only to transform cancer research and treatment, but also to hasten improved outcomes for patients. This is sure to have a significant impact on cancer care for years to come in the communities we serve and beyond.
Years of service and support from our friends have helped the Cancer Institute achieve and maintain its standing. Caroline Monti Saladino has dedicated decades of time and treasure to our work and continues to be a source of inspiration.
There’s much more in this issue of Toward a Cure. Please read on, and let us know how we can better serve you and our community.
