Cohen Children's Medical Center Appoints Andrew Hong, MD, Chief of Pediatric Surgery

The North Shore-LIJ Health System announced today that Andrew Hong, MD, has been named the director of the division of Pediatric Surgery at Cohen Children’s Medical Center.

“Dr. Hong has built an illustrious career in the field of pediatric surgery,” said Charles Schleien, MD, chairman, Department of Pediatrics.  “Prior to being Division Chief, Dr. Hong served as the director of our Pediatric Surgery Residency Program. He has served this hospital with great skill and compassion in the roles of clinician and mentor. His expertise in this field will add greatly to the reputation already enjoyed by our hospital.”

Dr. Hong has authored dozens of articles in peer-reviewed journals, such as Journal of Pediatric Surgery and Pediatric Surgery International. In addition, he has presented at such prestigious meetings as the 40th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association of Pediatric Surgery and the International Pediatric Endosurgery Group.

Board certified by the American Board of Surgery in General Surgery and Pediatric Surgery, Dr. Hong is Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is a member of multiple societies within his profession, including the American Pediatric Surgical Association; the International Pediatric Endosurgery Group; the NYS Medical Society; and the Children’s Oncology Group.

The Glen Head, N.Y, resident has been a member of the full time staff at Cohen since 1997. He earned his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin Medical School and completed residencies in surgery and pediatric surgery at the University of Vermont College of Medicine and the Montreal Children’s Hospital in Montreal, Quebec. He earned his undergraduate degree at Dartmouth College.
