North Shore-LIJ’s Insurance Company Expands Its Network
By Dan Goldberg

North Shore-L.I.J. said Wednesday the health insurance plan it offers has reached a deal with several major health care providers in the New York metropolitan area.

L.I.J's CareConnect, the only insurance plan offered on the state's exchange that is directly owned by a private health system, captured 1 percent of the market in 2014 while only being available in Queens, Staten Island, Nassau and Suffolk. This year, the insurer is branching out into Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan and Westchester, which meant it had to broaden its network.

The new CareConnect Alliance Partnership includes Maimonides Medical Center, Montefiore Health System, Mount Kisco Medical Group, Northern Westchester Hospital, Phelps Memorial Hospital and Wyckoff Heights Medical Center. The network also includes any physician affiliated with one of those hospitals.

This is the latest example of L.I.J.'s desire to expand its reach beyond its traditional borders. The health system, has recently announced several partnerships in Westchester County and has explored the Brooklyn market as well.

The objective is to diversify revenue bases and cover more lives as the payment paradigm shifts from fee-for-service, or volume based, to one that is more capitated, or value based.
