Brain on Fire: Compelling Advancements in Neurological Health - Auxiliary of Lenox Hill Hospital Annual Benefit to Support Neurology Research

NEW YORK, NY - Brain on Fire: Compelling Advancements in Neurological Health will be the focus of The Auxiliary of Lenox Hill Hospital’s annual benefit. The event will take  place on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s Walter Reade Theater located at 165 West 65th Street. This informative program – which will be followed by a cocktail reception – will explore the intriguing field of neurology and feature Susannah Cahalan, New York Times bestselling author of “Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness,” as well as the physician who saved her life, Lenox Hill’s chairman of neurology, Souhel Najjar, MD. Dr. Najjar and Lenox Hill Hospital chief medical officer Jill Kalman, MD, are event honorary co-chairs.

Cahalan, whose critically acclaimed book will soon be a major motion picture, will share her inspiring journey toward recovery from a rare brain disorder, while Dr. Najjar will explain how he was able to identify the mysterious condition that had previously eluded diagnosis. Lenox Hill Hospital’s leadership and Dr. Najjar will also discuss the innovative research now underway at the hospital and provide insights on medical advancements to come.

“The event will provide our attendees with unique insight into the complex and fascinating world of the brain,” according to Auxiliary chair Robin Waxenberg. “We look forward to a compelling and stimulating evening.”

Dr. Max Gomez, WCBS medical correspondent, Emmy™ award-winning broadcast journalist and author will be the evening’s moderator.

Proceeds from the annual benefit will support brain autoimmune disorder and autoimmune encephalitis research conducted by Lenox Hill Hospital’s Department of Neurology.
