GLEN COVE, NY – The North Shore-LIJ Health System announced today that Brad Sherman, MD, has been appointed medical director at Glen Cove Hospital. Dr. Sherman, who has held various clinical roles across the health system for 19 years, has served as chair of the hospital’s Department of Medicine since 2007 – a position he will continue to hold.
In his role as medical director, Dr. Sherman oversees medical affairs, quality management, patient care and safety, and standards of care at Glen Cove Hospital, which continues as a full-service community hospital. A resident of Port Washington, he is an associate professor of medicine at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine.
From 2003 to 2007, Dr. Sherman was a hospitalist at North Shore University Hospital (NSUH), where he oversaw the Internal Medicine Teaching Service and provided direct care to patients. He also was section head of performance improvement/quality assurance for the inpatient section of the Division of Internal Medicine at NSUH. Previously, he was a key faculty member in internal medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital, where he also served as director of medical informatics in the Department of Medicine.
Dr. Sherman earned his MD degree from New York Medical College, and completed his residency in internal medicine at Northwestern University. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the Society of Hospital Medicine and a member of several medical societies.
Dr. Sherman is the founding president of the Long Island Chapter for the Society of Hospital Medicine. He earned a fellowship in Quality and Leadership from the Greater New York Hospital Association, completed the Advanced Leadership Development Program through the National Council of Healthcare Leadership and serves as the chair of the Quality Committee of the New York Chapter of the American College of Physicians. He has also served on the North Shore-LIJ Board of Trustees’ Committee on Quality, and the Quality Committee of the North Shore-LIJ Medical Group.
