GLEN COVE, NY – Northwell Health announced today that Adrian Cristian, MD, has been appointed chair of physical medicine and rehabilitation at Glen Cove Hospital. In his new position, Dr. Cristian will be responsible for overseeing the hospital’s inpatient rehabilitation programs, including its Brain Injury Unit, as well as expanding outpatient rehabilitation services for Glen Cove and surrounding communities. Dr. Cristian will also serve on the faculty of the Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine.
Dr. Cristian earned his MD degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 1991 and in 1995 completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Mount Sinai. He is board-certified in both physical medicine and rehabilitation and pain medicine. Dr. Cristian also holds a master’s degree in Health Care Management from Harvard University.
Upon completing his medical training, Dr. Cristian spent two years as an attending physician at Glen Cove Hospital before he joined the James Peters Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center in the Bronx. During his 12-year tenure with the VA, Dr. Cristian served as chief of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, director of the Pain Management Service, medical director of the Polytrauma/Traumatic Brain Injury Center for the Regional Veterans Integrated Service Network and medical director for the Regional Amputation Center for the northeastern United States.
Dr. Cristian has edited several books including Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation: Patient Centered Care: Mastering the Competencies, Medical Management of the Adult with Neurologic Disability, Lower Limb Amputation-Living a Quality Life and Living Well with a Spinal Cord Injury. He has also served as guest editor for three editions of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinics of North America related to: geriatric rehabilitation, aging with a disability and patient safety in rehabilitation medicine.
