Laurie Vitagliano, MD, is responsible for the quality and organization of care at South Oaks Hospital. As chief medical officer, she provides clinical and administrative leadership for all behavioral health programs.

Dr. Vitagliano joined Northwell Health in 2018. She was previously deputy director of the psychiatry department at New York City Health + Hospitals/Queens, which is a hospital affiliated with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai. She also served as associate director of Queens Hospital Center’s Department of Psychiatry.

Prior to NYC Health + Hospitals, Dr. Vitagliano was medical director for Sunset Terrace Family Health Center, chief of Outpatient Behavioral Health Service and an attending physician at Lutheran Medical. In this role, she was responsible for direct service provision as well as the clinical leadership of a large federally qualified ambulatory mental health and substance abuse treatment center that cared for more than 2,500 patients.

Since 2010, Dr. Vitagliano has been an assistant professor in Mt. Sinai School of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry. She has been honored with several awards throughout her career, including Physician of the Year by Transitional Services for New York, Inc. (2017), NYC Health + Hospitals’ Doctor’s Day Award (2012) and the Aventis Women’s Travel Award by the American Psychiatric Association (2003).

Dr. Vitagliano holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Manhattan College, a Master of Social Work from Hunter College and her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
