Our commitment to transparency

Northwell Health uses a series of well-established performance measures to demonstrate the quality of care we deliver to our patients and the communities we serve. As an organization we believe in transparency and in openly sharing our performance data. Below is a variety of independent reports from the New York State Department of Health, Medicare, Joint Commission, and more.

Cardiac outcomes data

The most recent New York State Department of Health report ranked Northwell Health’s cardiac surgery and cardiology programs among the best in New York.

North Shore University Hospital (NSUH) was among only four NYS hospitals-and the only one on Long Island-with a significantly lower mortality rate for PCI (all cases).  This level of performance earned NSUH a prestigious double star rating from NYS.

Long Island Jewish Medical Center (LIJMC) now combined with the cardio-thoracic program at North Shore University Hospital  in Manhasset as the Sandra Atlas Bass Heart Hospital had a significantly lower risk adjusted mortality rate than the statewide average for all types of cardiac surgery combined for the most recently reported three year period (2012-2014).

See graphics below for PCI and Cardiac Surgery outcomes for the Northwell Health programs offering these services.

Stroke outcomes data

In 2015, North Shore University Hospital was the first hospital on Long Island and one of four in New York State to receive advanced certification as a Comprehensive Stroke Center (CSC). North Shore earned the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Gold Plus Stroke Honor Roll award in recognition of our ability to provide the highest quality stroke care and take care of the most complex stroke patients. As part of our commitment to excellence and transparency, we are proud to share our comprehensive stroke center data with you.
