Northwell Health operates in multicultural communities with diverse needs. Therefore having strong relationships with diverse suppliers supports Northwell Health’s vision and core values. By having suppliers that reflect our customer base, we positively affect our patient care, inspire trust in our communities, as well as enhance our reputation as a strong citizen in the world of health care.
Northwell Health is committed to improving the diversity of its vendors in reflection of the diversity of the communities it serves. Strong relationships with diverse suppliers support Northwell’s vision and core values, positively affecting patient centered care and enhancing community partnerships.
The OCPH, in partnership with the Northwell Health Office of Procurement, has redefined and enhanced the Northwell’s supplier diversity program. Northwell has joined the Minority Supplier Development Council (NY/NJ) – the global leader in advancing business opportunities for its certified Asian, black, Hispanic and Native American business enterprises and connecting them to member corporations. Northwell Health evaluates potential vendors within categories and product specific needs defining three schema – quality of product/service and fulfillment of patient and Northwell's needs, cost mitigation, and alignment with the strategic vision including the promotion of diversity.

The Global Health Initiatives Advisory Board has awarded over $40,000 to health organizations and programs that are led by or include members of Northwell Health employee community. In support of global health initiatives undertaken by the Health System, the board aligns these initiatives with the organization’s overall strategic vision and plan.
Advisory Board membership is multidisciplinary to ensure a comprehensive assessment of requests, and includes members such as Diversity & Inclusion, Community and Public Health, Procurement, Corporate Social Responsibility, Development, Compliance, Human Resources, and Public Relations. The goal of the group is to provide our diverse employee population with the tools and resources necessary to make meaningful contributions to global health across the international community and to provide assistance in the event of a disaster.
Northwell Health partners with MedShare, an organization that recovers valuable, unused surplus medical supplies and equipment in the United States, which would otherwise be discarded. This partnership successfully bridges the gap between surplus in the U.S. and health care institutions in developing countries, which have a significant need for medical surplus and expertise. Over half of Northwell Health Hospitals and the Integrated Distribution Center provide donations, including beds, biomedical equipment, and other assorted medical supplies.
