Overview

Northwell Health is developing new relationships with other leading healthcare systems and organizations from across the country to benchmark our performance and broaden our access to best practices.

Dartmouth High Value Healthcare Collaborative

Northwell Health is participating with other top US healthcare networks from across the country in a first-of-its-kind collaborative launched by the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy & Clinical Practice (TDI). The collaborative is designed to get hospitals to focus on the high cost of medical care and surgical procedures, and to develop practice care and payment models aimed at enhancing patient safety and reducing costs. Northwell is the only health network in New York State participating in the initiative.

In addition to Northwell Health, the other top health networks participating in the collaborative are: Mayo Clinic, Denver Health, Intermountain Healthcare, Dartmouth-Hitchcock, Baylor, Scott & White Health Care, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, University of Iowa Health Care, Hawaii Pacific Health, Providence Health & Services, Sinai Health System, UC San Diego Health System and the Virginia Mason Medical Center. The health networks share data on patient care, costs and outcomes so that the information can be analyzed and programs implemented to meet the goals of the collaboration: to enhance patient care and reduce costs.

The common condition/disease-specific areas that are currently targeted include: total knee replacement, diabetes, hip replacement, heart failure, spine surgery, Sepsis and Advanced Illness.

Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI)

Northwell Health and a number of top performing health care organizations in the United States and abroad have partnered with the IHI to transform the way that healthcare is delivered. Through its strategic partnership with IHI, Northwell Health is improving care for patients with advanced illness, developing an ambulatory safety program that includes multiple types of ambulatory care practices and educating the next generation of physicians and healthcare professionals in the fundamentals of quality and patient safety through the IHI Open School.
